New York City can be as expensive, or as cheap, as you like it. It came as no surprise that when I checked several providers to see what offerings are available for fall, I found quite a range of prices and hotel classes. Departures from Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles were tested, and packages include airfare and two nights’ accommodations. Packages also include additional taxes and fees for airfare and accommodations.

Sample prices for the week of November 5 are:

Expedia’s prices start at $216 from Boston, $276 from Chicago, and $376 from Los Angeles.Delta Vacations has packages starting at $317 from Boston, $348 from Chicago, and $450 from Los Angeles.JetBlue’s rates start at $416 from Boston, $476 from Chicago, and $596 from Los Angeles (Burbank).

The listed rates are per person based on double occupancy. Single travelers may pay a supplementary charge for each package. Availability is limited.

Which deal offers the best value?

If the lowest price determines which package you’ll book, I found that Expedia had the cheapest rates from all departure cities. Another important factor to consider is the type and location of lodging included. To compare hotel ratings, visit TripAdvisor, a partner of SmarterTravel.com.

It’s always a good idea to compare costs before making a reservation, and you can use our price-comparison tool to search multiple travel providers.

Please note that most providers do not list booking deadlines, and not all packages may be available for the dates you wish to visit. Be flexible with your travel dates to find the best prices.
