Alitalia

Alitalia is offering fall and winter sale fares to Europe starting at $501 round-trip, including all taxes and fees. Destinations include Paris, Barcelona, Kiev, and Copenhagen.

Alitalia’s sale fares were the best available for many of the routes I checked. The only exceptions were for the New York/Paris and Chicago/Zurich routes, where US Airways had better deals. This sale is worth considering, particularly because Alitalia includes taxes in its advertised prices—a welcome change from most airlines’ method of promoting low base fares, only to tack on hundreds of dollars in taxes when you book.

The deal

Travel is valid midweek from October 29 through December 13, 2007, and again from January 8 through March 13, 2008. Book tickets by September 28. Fares require a Saturday-night stay, and the maximum stay is one month.

Sample round-trip fares, including additional taxes and fees, are:

$501 between New York and Barcelona $585 between New York and Paris $596 between Miami and Copenhagen $614 between Boston and Kiev $717 between Miami and Amsterdam $732 between Chicago and Zurich
