I compared several providers’ offerings for vacations in late summer to San Diego. Packages include airfare, four nights’ accommodations and hotel taxes. With the exception of the Southwest deals, sample vacations include additional taxes and fees for airfare.
Sample prices for August are:
Expedia offers pricing starting at $491 from Chicago, $493 from New York, and $262 from San Francisco.Travelocity offers packages starting at $460 from Chicago, $579 from New York, and $305 from San Francisco.Orbitz packages start at $489 from Chicago, $562 from New York, and $312 from San Francisco.Southwest Vacations’ offers start at $538 from Chicago, $731 from New York (Islip), and $369 from San Francisco.
The listed rates are per person based on double occupancy. Single travelers may pay a supplementary charge for each package. Availability is limited.
Which deal offers the best value?
If you’re going by price alone, I found that Expedia had the cheapest rates from New York and San Francisco, and Travelocity beat the competition for Chicago departures. Be sure to shop around to find the best price for your San Diego getaway.
Another important factor to consider is the type of lodging included. To compare hotel ratings, visit TripAdvisor. It’s always a good idea to compare costs before making a reservation, and you can use our tool to compare vacation prices from multiple travel providers.
Please note that many providers do not list booking deadlines, and not all packages may be available for the travel dates you want. Be flexible with your travel dates to find the best deal for your vacation.
