I compared several providers’ offerings for vacations in early summer to San Diego. Packages include airfare, four nights’ accommodations and hotel taxes. With the exception of the Southwest deals, sample vacations include additional taxes and fees for airfare.

Sample prices for late June are:

Orbitz packages start at $480 from Chicago, $510 from New York, and $261 from San Francisco.Travelocity offers packages starting at $419 from Chicago, $480 from New York, and $261 from San Francisco.Expedia offers pricing starting at $500 from Chicago, $482 from New York, and $275 from San Francisco.Southwest Vacations’ offers start at $631 from Chicago, $839 from New York (Islip), and $500 from San Francisco. Air taxes are not included.

The listed rates are per person based on double occupancy. Single travelers may pay a supplementary charge for each package. Availability is limited.

Which deal offers the best value?

If you’re going by price alone, I found that Orbitz and Travelocity had the cheapest rates from San Francisco, and Travelocity beat the competition for Chicago and New York departures. Be sure to shop around to find the best price for your San Diego getaway.

Another important factor to consider is the type of lodging included. To compare hotel ratings, visit TripAdvisor. It’s always a good idea to compare costs before making a reservation, and you can use our tool to compare vacation prices from multiple travel providers.

Please note that many providers do not list booking deadlines, and not all packages may be available for the travel dates you want. Be flexible with your travel dates to find the best deal for your vacation.
