However, if you live in or near Florida, you can also save on the cost of transportation to the departure port by driving rather than flying. Prices for Florida homeport cruises start at $249 per person.

When I checked, sample per-person prices for 2008 cruises included:

$249 for a four-night western Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Fascination departing from Miami on September 15. This cruise calls at Key West; and Cozumel, Mexico.$269 for a three-night Bahamas cruise aboard the Carnival Imagination departing from Miami on October 24. This cruise calls at Nassau, Bahamas.$369 for a five-night western Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Inspiration departing from Tampa on December 15. Ports-of-call include Grand Cayman; and Cozumel, Mexico.$549 for a seven-night western Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Liberty departing from Miami on September 27. Ports-of-call include Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman; and Jamaica.$709 for an eight-night southern Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Miracle departing from Ft. Lauderdale on November 5. Ports-of-call include St. Maarten, St. Lucia, and St. Kitts.
