Virgin America has announced a new domestic deal with sale fares starting at $49 one-way or $98 round-trip. Destinations include Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.

Virgin America’s sale fares were among the best available for travel on the San Francisco/San Diego, San Francisco/Las Vegas, and Seattle/San Francisco routes, although other airlines, including Alaska, American, United, and US Airways matched. However, I found lower fares for the remaining routes, from Virgin America itself and from Alaska, American, Northwest, Spirit, United, and US Airways. This deal is worth a look, but you should still compare fares before booking to ensure you get the best price.

Sri Lanka will host the World Spice Festival from 14 to 24 August 2008. Sri Lanka has had strong links with spices since the 15th century. During the Festival dishes from all around the world are cooked and served in various hotels and restaurants around the island. There is a bazaar every evening on the shores of Beira Lake in the centre of the capital city Colombo.

American has announced a new offer for domestic travel. Fares start at $298 round-trip, and Austin, New Orleans, and New York are featured.

The best deals among the routes I checked were for travel on the Chicago/Lafayette and Shreveport/Austin routes, although Northwest matched the former. American itself, as well as AirTran, Frontier, Northwest, and United, beat the sale prices for the remaining routes. American may offer a competitive fare for your travels, but you should still shop around before booking because it may not be listed in this offer.

The 3 Harbours Art Festival takes place in the three seaside villages of Prestonpans, Port Seton and Cockenzie in East Lothian from the 31 May to 8 June 2008. The Festival celebrates the painting, sculpture, literature and history of this coastal strip, a few miles east of Edinburgh.

US Airways is offering sale fares to several Hawaiian islands, with prices starting at $436 round-trip. Destinations include Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.

US Airways’ sale fares were the best available for four of the six routes I compared. The exceptions were for travel between Charlotte and Lihue, where United offered a better price, and the Phoenix/Honolulu route, where Delta beat US Airways’ fare. Overall, this deal is worth considering, but you should still compare fares to ensure you get the best deal for your route.

Flights to and from Orlando are on sale from Continental. Fares start at $200 round-trip.

Continental’s sale prices aren’t great, and other airlines, including AirTran, Frontier, Northwest, United, and US Airways beat them for every fare I compared over a wide date range. Since Continental did not list travel dates for this sale, its fares could be competitive for your specific itinerary, but you’ll have to compare fares to be sure.
