citizenM

citizenM is a new brand of concept hotels whose aim is to build a strong brand personality which is approachable, down to earth, friendly and worldly wise offering affordable luxury. The concept revolves around “a mobile citizen of the world”, an independent, frequent traveller. At the moment there is only one hotel at Schipol in Amsterdam. The hotels are constructed in a modular form. I'm not sure I like the idea of the open plan bedroom with no separate bathroom but maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist.

You can enjoy desert, waterfront, and even European pursuits in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Las Vegas. On land, the city offers desert hiking, golf, and desert tours; on the water, visitors can fish, Jet Ski, kayak, and more. The city also boasts the famous London Bridge, more than 175 years old—shipped to and reconstructed in Arizona in 1971, right over the lake.

Brits refuse to give up their holidays

© maveric2003

It would appear that the British have no intention of giving up their holidays despite inflation busting increases in the price of food, fuel and mortgage costs eating up a higher proportion of household budgets. In fact, defying logic, there's been a 40% increase in holiday bookings during the first three months of 2008, compared to the 2007 figures. Why is this? Are people so stressed that they feel they couldn't cope without a holiday to look forward too? Have several holiday and short breaks a year become an integral way of life? Maybe they will choose a cheaper holiday e.g. stay at a 3 star hotel instead of a 4 star or a short haul instead of a long haul destination. Is the rising cost of living affecting your travel plans this year? Personally, I've found the fall in the value of the pound against the euro is pushing up my spending in mainland Europe by more than 10%. This is having more influence on my travel plans than the rising cost of living in the UK.

Spring tends to bring about changes and nowhere is that more apparent than on the Strip as several shows and headliners change venues. Here’s a quick look at the shuffle:

* * * * * * * * * *

The Sahara has signed comedian Roseanne Barr to an open-ended headlining slot at the hotel. She takes over the showroom recently vacated by magician-comedian Amazing Jonathan and will perform at 9:30pm five days a week, Saturdays through Tuesdays, with the show dark on Thursdays and Fridays. Tickets are $62 through $92 (VIP seating) and are available at the Sahara box office. Barr last appeared on the Strip in 2007 when she headlined a six-week run at New York-New York.
