Domestic

Northwest has announced a new domestic sale for travel through late August. Prices start at $358 round-trip, and New Orleans, Tampa, and Washington, D.C., are included.

This sale is spotty, as Northwest’s prices were among the best available for two routes and were beaten by three. The Fayetteville/Tampa and Wichita/Birmingham prices were competitive, but American, United, and US Airways matched the latter. AirTran topped Northwest for travel between Kansas City and Detroit, Continental offered a lower Lexington/New Orleans fare, and Frontier beat the sale fare for the Oklahoma City/Washington, D.C., route. Northwest’s offer is worth considering, but you’ll have to compare fares before booking to ensure you get the best deal for your route.

Flights to and from Chicago are on sale from American. Fares start at $80 round-trip for travel through early June.

American’s sale prices were the best available for two of the six routes I checked, including Boston and Toronto. AirTran and US Airways matched the former, while Northwest and US Airways matched the latter.

Flights to and from New York are on sale from Delta. Fares start at $158 round-trip for travel through late July.

Delta’s sale fares were the best available for five of the six routes I compared, although Northwest and US Airways matched the Charleston and Myrtle Beach fares, while American, Frontier, JetBlue, Northwest, and US Airways all matched the Phoenix fare. But, Northwest topped Delta for travel between Nashville and New York, so it’s still a good idea to do a quick fare-comparison before booking to ensure you get the best price and most convenient schedule for your route.

Southwest’s Mother’s Day sale features domestic fares as low as $48 one-way or $96 round-trip. Chicago, Denver, Orlando, and San Diego are featured, and tickets must be booked by Monday.

The sale fares were the best available for five of the seven routes I checked, although other airlines, including Alaska, American, Frontier, United, and US Airways, matched Southwest’s prices. AirTran and Northwest topped the sale price for travel between Baltimore and Orlando, and Northwest offered a lower Providence/Chicago fare. Overall, this is a solid deal, but you should still compare fares to ensure you get the best price and most convenient schedule for your route.

U.S.

Domestic flights through mid-November are on sale from Midwest. Fares start at $158 round-trip, and cities include Atlanta, Las Vegas, New York, and Toronto.

Midwest’s best deals, among the routes I checked, were for travel on the Omaha/New York and Omaha/Toronto routes, though United and Northwest matched the former. But, Midwest itself, plus AirTran, American, Northwest, United, and US Airways, beat the sale prices for the remaining routes, so you should shop around before booking to ensure you find the best price for your route.

United’s new domestic sale includes fares starting at $74 round-trip. Cities include Boston, Las Vegas, San Antonio, and Washington, D.C.

The sale fares were the best available for five of the six routes I compared, although American and US Airways offered similar prices for many of the routes included in this deal. United itself, and American and US Airways topped the sale price for travel between Chicago and Pittsburgh. Overall, this is a good deal but you should still compare fares before booking to ensure you get the best price for your travels.

Flights between Denver and the West Coast are on sale from Southwest. Fares start at $69 one-way or $138 round-trip for travel through late October.

Southwest’s sale prices were the best available for every route I checked, but other airlines, including Alaska, American, Frontier, Northwest, and US Airways, matched the sale prices for most of those routes. This is a solid deal but it’s always a good idea to compare fares before you book.
