Through Thursday, Southwest is offering sale fares starting at $69 one-way or $138 round-trip. Cities include Chicago, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, and Orlando.

The best deals among the routes I checked were for travel on the Dallas/Harlingen and Islip/Ft. Lauderdale routes, but other airlines beat Southwest’s prices for the remaining cities. AirTran, Northwest, United, and US Airways topped Southwest for travel between Baltimore and Orlando, while Frontier and US Airways offered lower Los Angeles/Albuquerque fares. JetBlue beat Southwest’s Oakland/Las Vegas fare, Northwest had a better Providence/Chicago fare, and USA3000 offered a lower price for the Chicago/Ft. Myers route. Since other airlines’ prices were lower than the sale fares in many cases, you should be sure to shop around before you book.

If the Palms resort resembles Hollywood more than normal for the next ten days, it’s because the CineVegas Film Festival begins tonight.

For ten years, the little fest that could has grown to a star-studded industry event, and this year will be no different.

Flights between Denver and cities on the West Coast are on sale from Southwest. The sale fares start at $79 one-way or $158 round-trip.

Southwest’s sale fares are facing competition from other airlines. The Oakland, San Diego, and Seattle fares were among the best available, although airlines including Alaska, American, Frontier, and US Airways also offered similar fares. But, US Airways beat Southwest’s round-trip fares for each of the four remaining routes, and Frontier and United also had lower Sacramento fares. This deal may be worth a look, but you’ll have to compare fares before booking to ensure you get a good price for travel on your route.

Earlier this week, The Mirage welcomed some new residents to the resort — six-week-old white, white-striped and golden tiger cubs. The cubs will be part of Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat attraction and the public will get its first chance to see them starting today, June 13th, 2008, which is also Siegfried’s 69th birthday.

Domestic flights through the end of November are on sale from United. Destinations include Myrtle Beach, Santa Barbara, and Washington, D.C.

Other airlines beat United’s sale prices for every route I compared. American offered lower fares for travel on the Chicago/Cincinnati and Los Angeles/San Luis Obispo routes, while Continental and Northwest had better Washington, D.C./Myrtle Beach fares. JetBlue topped United for travel between Buffalo and Washington, D.C., and US Airways offered better deals for the Denver/Santa Barbara and San Francisco/Eugene routes. These fares aren’t competitive overall, so be sure to shop around before you book.

Domestic fares on ExpressJet are on sale from $79 one-way or $158 round-trip. Destinations include New Orleans, Long Beach, San Diego, and El Paso.

ExpressJet will likely offer a competitive price for travel on most routes, but you won’t find the best prices listed in this offer. ExpressJet beat the advertised sale fares for every route I checked. Frontier also had a better deal for travel between Albuquerque and Oklahoma City, American and Northwest matched ExpressJet’s lower fare for travel on the Austin/New Orleans route, and US Airways also offered a better price for the Ontario/El Paso route. Compare ExpressJet’s everyday prices with fares from other airlines before you book.

Allegiant is offering a new Florida sale with fares starting at $59 one-way or $118 round-trip. Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, and St. Petersburg are included.

Allegiant’s sale fares were the best available for every route I checked, but it’s always a good idea to do a quick fare comparison before booking. Note that Allegiant serves Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) rather than Orlando International Airport (MCO).
