Through Thursday, Southwest is offering sale fares from $40 one-way or $80 round-trip. Flights to Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Orlando, and San Francisco are included in the sale.

Southwest’s sale fares were among the best available for nearly every route I checked, although other airlines, including AirTran, American, and US Airways, offered similar deals. JetBlue beat Southwest’s Oakland/Las Vegas fare by about $20. This deal includes competitive prices, but you should still compare fares from other carriers before you book.

American will introduce service to Moscow on June 2, and is offering sale fares starting at $934 round-trip to promote the new route. Departures are available from Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C.

American’s introductory sale fares may be competitive, but you’ll have to compare fares before booking to be sure. As an added bonus, members of American’s AAdvantage frequent flyer program can earn 10,000 bonus miles by booking a flight to Moscow.

Delta has joined AirTran and American in offering domestic sale fares available for travel through early November. Fares start at $98 round-trip, and Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, and New York are featured.

Four of the six sale fares I compared were among the best available, although AirTran, American, Northwest, United, and US Airways matched many of those prices. However, Frontier beat Delta’s New York/Las Vegas fare, and US Airways offered a better deal for travel between New York and Jacksonville. Delta’s prices are decent but you should still compare fares before booking because this sale has a lot of competition.

American’s latest domestic deal competes with a similar sale from AirTran. Fares start at $158 round-trip, and cities include Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New Orleans.

The sale fares were hit-or-miss for the routes I checked. American’s prices for the Atlanta/St. Louis, Chicago/Boston, and Jacksonville/New Orleans routes were among the best available, although AirTran, JetBlue, Northwest, United, and US Airways offered the same prices for several of those. American itself, along with AirTran, Northwest, Spirit, United, and US Airways, beat the sale prices for the remaining routes. Consider this offer, but be sure to compare fares with American’s competitors before booking.

Through Monday, Spirit is offering sale fares starting at $38 round-trip. Cities include Ft. Lauderdale, Freeport, and Nassau.

The $38 fares are available only on a handful of routes, but more expensive fares are also available on a wider variety of routes. Although this sale will be around longer than many of Spirit’s offers, you should still act fast to take advantage of the best deals before they sell out.
