Flights between cities in the Western U.S. and Seattle are on sale from Alaska. Fares start at $69 one-way or $138 round-trip for travel through the end of October.

Alaska’s sale prices were among the best available for the Los Angeles and San Francisco routes, although United, Virgin America, and US Airways matched the former, and United and Virgin America matched the latter. US Airways beat Alaska’s Palm Springs and Tucson fares, Virgin America topped Alaska for travel on the Las Vegas and San Diego routes, and JetBlue also had a lower Las Vegas fare. Since Alaska is facing competition for every route, you should shop around before booking to ensure you get the best price.

Summer and fall flights from New York to Europe are on sale from Delta. Fares start at $858 round-trip, and cities include London, Paris, Rome, and Bucharest.

Delta’s deal is worth considering, particularly for travel to destinations in Eastern Europe such as Bucharest or Romania. Note that Delta’s recently announced fee for a second checked bag does not apply to flights to Europe so you can still check two bags free of charge. A third bag, however, costs $150.

United has announced a new domestic deal for travel from late June through early July. Fares start at $228 round-trip, and cities include Kahului, Las Vegas, New York, and San Francisco.

United’s sale prices aren’t great. Northwest topped United for the New York/Los Angeles and Washington, D.C./Las Vegas routes; Alaska offered lower Los Angeles/Reno and Chicago/Kahului fares; and Virgin America beat United’s San Francisco/New York fare. Alaska and Virgin America both offered better prices for travel between Seattle and San Francisco. Skip this offer and shop around before you book.

Domestic flights through early November are on sale from AirTran. Fares start at $49 one-way or $98 round-trip, and Atlanta, Orlando, and New Orleans are featured.

AirTran’s sale fares are among the best available for most of the routes I checked, but other carriers including American, Midwest, Northwest, United, and US Airways are offering similar prices. AirTran itself beat the sale fare for travel between New York and New Orleans, and US Airways beat AirTran’s price for the Dallas/Orlando route, so you should still compare fares before booking to ensure you get the best deal for your travels.
