With the crazy news coming out of South Africa over the past week it was Germany that issued the first travel warning, advising its nationals to steer clear of Johannesburg, and no doubt there will be others to follow. Johannesburg is a violent and dangerous place, it always has been, and chances are it always will be. It is the City of Gold with an appropriate gold rush mentality, and the current rash of street violence is nothing new.

Virgin America has announced a new domestic deal with sale fares starting at $49 one-way or $98 round-trip. Destinations include Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
Virgin America’s sale fares were among the best available for travel on the San Francisco/San Diego, San Francisco/Las Vegas, and Seattle/San Francisco routes, although other airlines, including Alaska, American, United, and US Airways matched. However, I found lower fares for the remaining routes, from Virgin America itself and from Alaska, American, Northwest, Spirit, United, and US Airways. This deal is worth a look, but you should still compare fares before booking to ensure you get the best price.
