Like United, American is offering sale fares to and from cities in the southeastern U.S. Fares start at $170 round-trip, and Austin, Birmingham, and Charlotte are featured.

American’s sale prices are hit-or-miss. Three of the fares I compared—Chicago/Charlotte, Denver/Columbia, and Greenville/Austin—were competitive, though other airlines, including AirTran, Continental, Northwest, and United, offered similar deals. American itself, plus Northwest and United, topped the sale prices for the remaining three routes. Before you book, shop around to ensure you get the best deal for your travels.
