Alaska has announced new service to Maui, perhaps to begin filling the void left by Aloha and ATA. Introductory fares from Seattle and Anchorage starts at $249 one-way or $498 round-trip.

Alaska’s Anchorage fare was the best I found, but Hawaiian offered a better price for Seattle departures. Consider this deal, particularly for departures from Anchorage, but be sure to compare fares before you book.

Flights to warm-weather destinations (and Boston) are on sale from Northwest. Fares start at $290 round-trip and departures are available to and from Montana and North and South Dakota.

Northwest’s sale fares were the best available for nearly every route I checked, though United came within a few dollars of the sale prices for every route. The only exception was for travel between Grand Forks and Las Vegas, where Northwest’s every day price beat the sale fare. These fares are among the best you’ll find for these routes, but be sure to compare schedules with United before you book.
