The best deals among the routes I checked were for travel on the Philadelphia/Ft. Lauderdale and Cleveland/Sarasota routes, although the former was matched by AirTran and Northwest. USA3000′s everyday prices topped its sale prices for the remaining three routes. Before you book, compare USA3000′s sale fares with its regular prices. Hint: check the “Flexible Traveler” box in USA3000′s booking form to find the cheapest fares by month.

Through Thursday, Southwest is offering sale fares from $39 one-way. Travel is valid through the end of the month, and Austin, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Washington, D.C., are included in the offer.

Southwest’s sale is facing a lot of competition from other airlines. Though its Chicago/Washington, D.C., Islip/Chicago, and Oakland/Los Angeles fares were the best available, the Oakland/Los Angeles price was matched by United and the remaining routes were beaten.
