May flights to Europe from New York (JFK) are on sale from Delta starting at $398 round-trip. Destinations include Edinburgh, London, Milan, and Paris.
Since Delta’s sample fares seem quite low, I investigated to find out if they are actually available. I was able to find a $408 New York-to-London fare, which totaled $547 with taxes and fees included—not bad for May travel these days. I also found a $438 Edinburgh fare without taxes, $20 higher than the advertised price. However, the prices I found for the Paris, Bucharest, and Milan routes were $75, $124, and $201 higher than the sample fares, respectively.

A vacation in Iraq may sound like some sort of joke in bad taste but I recently read about a new Iraq travel guidebook by Bradt and decided to do more investigation.

Aer Lingus generally offers competitive prices for travel to Ireland. It’s still a good idea to shop around, however, to ensure you find the best prices and schedules for your route.

Domestic sale fares on Continental are on sale from $186 round-trip. New Orleans, Orlando, and Phoenix are featured.
The best deal among the fares I compared over a wide date range was for travel between St. Louis and Brownsville. Other airlines, including AirTran, American, Frontier, Northwest, United, and US Airways, beat Continental’s prices for the remaining routes.

Alaska’s new offer features flights within the U.S. and to Mexico and Canada. Fares start at $59 one-way or $118 round-trip and cities include Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, and Loreto.
Alaska’s domestic and Canada fares were the best available for the routes I checked, although American, Frontier, United, and US Airways matched in many cases. If you’re traveling on a domestic route, Alaska’s sale is worth considering, but you should still compare fares before you book.
