South Africa is one of those countries where many visitors dream of moving there permanently shortly into their first visit. Whether they end up pulling off the move is another thing altogether, but at the very least it can be interesting to see how much properties are selling for, even if you aren’t seriously considering the move…yet.

Southwest has extended its April sale through Thursday at midnight CT. Fares start at $39 one-way or $78 round-trip, and cities include Austin, Chicago, Seattle, and West Palm Beach.

Southwest’s sale fares were the best available for four of the seven routes I checked, though United matched Southwest’s Los Angeles/Oakland fare. AirTran, American, Northwest, United, and US Airways beat Southwest’s Baltimore/Chicago price; Continental, Northwest, United, and US Airways offered a lower price for travel between Manchester and Austin; and United topped Southwest for the Chicago/Ft. Lauderdale route. Since Southwest is facing competition for several routes, you should shop around before you book.

Before booking, compare 1-800-FlyEurope’s sale fares with those available from the airline itself to ensure you get the best deal. The car rental, while a nice perk if you’ll use it, is based on a minimum seven-day rental, which may not be appealing for every trip.
