American has joined United in offering a domestic sale from $100 round-trip. Cities include Atlanta, Honolulu, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

American’s best deals among the routes I checked were for travel on the Los Angeles/San Francisco and Dallas/Washington, D.C., routes, though other airlines, including AirTran, ATA, Continental, Frontier, Midwest, Northwest, United, and US Airways, offered similar prices. American itself, along with AirTran, Continental, Delta, Northwest, United, and US Airways, beat the remaining four routes I compared. Since American is facing a lot of competition, you should shop around before you book.

Spirit has announced a new destination in South America: Cartagena, Colombia. Introductory fares start at $36 round-trip from Ft. Lauderdale, with connecting service from other cities starting at $176.

Spirit’s sale ends on Friday, so you’ll have to move fast to nab one of these introductory fares. Though they’ll likely cost hundreds of dollars less than other airline’s prices, it’s always a good idea to compare fares before booking.
