American’s latest domestic deal competes with Southwest’s nationwide sale. Fares start at $96 round-trip, and include Chicago, Jacksonville, and San Antonio.

American’s sale prices were the best available for three of the six routes I compared, though airlines including Southwest, Continental, Frontier, Northwest, United, and US Airways offered similar prices. Southwest topped American for the San Francisco/Dallas route, while Southwest, AirTran, and US Airways beat American’s Dallas/Jacksonville fare. American itself had a lower price for travel between Baltimore and San Antonio. Shop around before you book to ensure you find the best deal for your travels.

Southwest has announced a new domestic sale for travel through late June. Fares start at $49 one-way or $98 round-trip and Burbank, Las Vegas, Houston, and Orlando are featured.

Southwest’s sale fares were among the best available for five of the seven routes I checked, though American and Continental matched its Dallas/Houston fare, and AirTran, American, Northwest, United, and US Airways offered similar prices for the Chicago/Orlando route. Alaska topped Southwest for travel between Oakland and Portland, and Continental and Northwest beat Southwest’s Providence/Pittsburgh fare. Overall, this is a solid deal but you should still compare fares before you book.

Through Friday, JetBlue is offering sale fares starting at $39 one-way or $78 round-trip. The sale highlights JetBlue’s cross-country routes and newly announced service, and destinations include Boston, Las Vegas, New York, and San Francisco.

JetBlue’s sale fares were the best available for five of seven routes I checked, though airlines including AirTran, American, Continental, Frontier, Midwest, Northwest, United, and US Airways matched its prices. Delta has joined AirTran in offering a domestic sale for travel through early November. Fares start at $98 round-trip, and the deal features Atlanta and New York.

AirTran offered better prices for the Atlanta/Savannah, Charlotte/New York, Los Angeles/Atlanta, and New York/Las Vegas routes. US Airways also offered lower prices for the Atlanta/Savannah and Los Angeles/Atlanta routes. AirTran, US Airways, and Northwest had the same prices as Delta for the remaining two routes, as did JetBlue for travel between New Orleans and New York. Overall, AirTran’s prices were better than Delta’s, so compare fares between the two airlines and other competitors before booking.

Hear that rumble of engines? It’s only going to get louder this weekend when NASCAR comes to town for its annual event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS).

Qualifying for the UAW-Dodge 400 is Friday, February 29. Then Saturday, March 1, the Sam’s Town 300 will be run with ESPN2 airing the event live at starting at 1:30pm, local time. The big race, the 11th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series UAW-Dodge 400, will be aired live by the Fox Network starting at 1:30pm on Sunday, March 2nd.
