Spirit’s new “Early Bird” sale features flights through mid-December. Sale fares start at $94 round-trip, and destinations include Atlantic City, Orlando, Los Angeles, and Nassau.

When I checked, the best deals in this sale were the Ft. Lauderdale/Nassau and Ft. Myers/Atlantic City routes. US Airways beat Spirit’s prices for each of the other routes. AirTran and Northwest also offered better prices for travel between Detroit and Orlando, and Frontier had the same price as US Airways for the Ft. Lauderdale/Los Angeles route. Spirit generally offers much lower prices than what’s included in this deal, so I recommend waiting to book these fares unless you really prefer to plan far ahead. It’s a safe bet that Spirit will offer plenty of $2 or $8 sales later this year.

The open-skies agreement has allowed many more airlines to add service at London’s Heathrow airport. US Airways begins its nonstop service in late March, and is offering sale fares from $401 round-trip to promote the new route.

Since you’ll find more competition among airlines for travel to London this spring, be sure you do a thorough fare comparison before booking.

Virgin Atlantic is offering fall and winter London sale fares. Fares start at $358 round-trip, and departures are available from New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.

If you like planning your trips far in advance, this deal is worth considering, as travel is valid through March of next year. But, you should shop around before you book to ensure you get a good deal on your route.
