Through Thursday, Southwest is offering domestic fares from $48 one-way or $96 round-trip. Cities include Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.

In general, Southwest’s sale fares are very competitive. Six of the seven routes I checked were the best available, with United beating Southwest’s price for travel between San Francisco and Las Vegas. Although you can expect to find a good deal in this sale, it’s still important to compare fares before booking.

JetBlue

JetBlue is adding two new destinations from Boston: Chicago and New Orleans. Introductory fares start at $89 and $99 one-way respectively.

JetBlue’s Chicago fare was the best available, but Northwest beat JetBlue’s price for travel to New Orleans by a few dollars. Consider these fares, but shop around before you book.

American

Posted in Travel Deals by on the January 30th, 2008

American has matched many of the fares in Southwest’s latest sale. Fares start at $96 round-trip for travel through mid-March.

Southwest is offering the same or better prices for each of the routes I checked. Other airlines, including AirTran, Continental, Frontier, Northwest, United, and US Airways, also matched or beat American’s fares, so you should compare fares to ensure you get the best price and most convenient schedule for your travels.

United

Posted in Travel Deals by on the January 30th, 2008

Domestic flights in February are on sale from United. Fares start at $88 round-trip, and Boston, Denver, Las Vegas, and San Francisco are featured.

United’s best deal was for travel on the Los Angeles/Reno routes. United beat its own price for the San Francisco/Las Vegas route. AirTran, Midwest, and US Airways beat United’s Denver/Boston fare by a few dollars. Northwest topped United on the Baltimore/Los Angeles and Columbus/Denver routes, and American also had a better price for the Baltimore route. AirTran had a lower price for travel between Philadelphia and San Francisco. United’s prices weren’t especially competitive for the routes I checked, so you should shop around before booking.

American

Posted in Travel Deals by on the January 30th, 2008

American is offering a Chicago sale with round-trip fares starting at $84. United has a similar sale for both domestic and international routes.

The best deal among the routes I checked was for the Chicago/Indianapolis route, though United matched that price. American itself, along with AirTran, Continental, Frontier, Northwest, United, and US Airways, beat the sale prices for the remaining routes. American may offer a competitive price for your route, but it probably won’t be listed in this deal. Compare fares from several airlines before you book to ensure you get a good deal.

U.S.

ATA is offering U.S. and Mexico sale fares starting at $84 one-way or $168 round-trip. Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, and Cancun are included in the deal.

ATA’s sale fares were the best available for five of the six routes I checked, but Hawaiian and Northwest topped ATA for travel between Los Angeles and Lihue. Overall this is a solid deal, but it’s always a good idea to shop around before booking.
