Which airfare site will find the cheapest fares to Las Vegas?

Today BootsnAll published an article that compares 7 of the major airfare search engines in a battle royal to see which is the cheapest. They compared all the best-known airfare sites on six different trips to see the best price each could come up with. Does it seem like Expedia, Hotwire, Kayak, Orbitz, Priceline, SideStep, and Travelocity all have the same prices? (more…)

Chicago

Flights to and from Chicago are on sale from United. Prices start at $84 round-trip for travel in February and March.

United’s best deal among the routes I checked was for travel between Indianapolis and Chicago, though American matched that fare. However, AirTran, Continental, Frontier, and US Airways beat United’s sale prices for the other routes. This sale isn’t great, so be sure to shop around before you book.

American

American has joined United in offering a new Hawaii sale. Prices start at $347 round-trip, and destinations include Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.

Other airlines beat American’s sale prices for every route I checked, including Aloha, ATA, Delta, Hawaiian, Northwest, and US Airways. Since American’s prices aren’t competitive, skip this sale and shop around before you book.

Sunny

Continental is offering sale fares for travel between the Northeast and sunny destinations in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Bermuda. Fares start at $124 round-trip.

Continental’s sale is spotty. Half the routes I checked were the best currently available, while the other half were beaten. Northwest offered lower Boston/Cozumel and Newark/San Juan fares, while AirTran, Continental itself, Midwest, and US Airways beat the sale price for travel between Boston and Las Vegas. These fares might be competitive for your route, but you’ll have to compare prices to be sure.

AGO Opens at the Hard Rock Hotel

The spot left empty by chef Kerry Simon’s move to the Luxor didn’t last long at the Hard Rock Hotel. LA’s popular AGO restaurant, backed by actor Robert DeNiro, quietly opened in that space just before New Year’s Eve last month.

The Choice Hotels brand (including Cambria Suites, Clarion, Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, EconoLodge, MainStay Suites, Quality Inn, Rodeway Inn, and Sleep Inn) offers many different types of online discounts. Here are some of the best:

The dealsSmarterTravel readers can save up to 20-percent on room rates at over 3,500 Choice Hotel locations. Just be sure to select the “Significant Organization Savings Rate” from the “Select Rate Program” menu when booking.Internet rates come with a best-rate guarantee. This means that if you find a lower rate on another site, for example, Hotels.com, they’ll match it plus give you an additional 10-percent discount.Check the Hot Deals section for city-specific discounts. There aren’t many, but the ones they do list often include extra perks like complimentary breakfast and/or dinner certificates.I think the Little League rates are a bit misleading. You don’t actually have to play Little League baseball in order to qualify for the 15-percent discount, you just have to like it (and even if you don’t, they’ll never know). Plus, all proceeds from your stay go back to support the game. Charity and a discount: what’s not to like?
