Domestic flights through early March are on sale from Delta. Fares start at $118 round-trip, and featured destinations include Las Vegas, New York, Cincinnati, and Salt Lake City.

Delta’s fares were the best available for four of the six routes I checked, though many major and low-fare carriers have similar fares. JetBlue beat Delta’s Chicago/Salt Lake City fare, and Northwest had a lower price for travel between Cincinnati and Las Vegas. Overall, this sale has competitive prices, but it’s still a good idea to compare fares before you book.

Aruba

I compared several providers’ offerings for Aruba vacations in January, testing departures from Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. All vacations include round-trip airfare and a four-night stay at an Aruba hotel, except for the Liberty Travel offer, which includes five nights’ accommodations. With the exception of the Liberty Travel deal, which only includes hotel taxes, packages include additional taxes and fees for airfare and hotel.

SAS is offering Europe sale fares for travel this winter. Prices start at $450 round-trip, and destinations include Copenhagen, Stockholm, London, and Paris.

Other airlines, including Air Canada, Air France, Alitalia, American, bmi, British Airways, Continental, Delta, Icelandair, KLM, Lufthansa, Northwest, and US Airways, beat SAS’ sale prices for the routes I checked. You’ll find a lot of competition for your winter travel dollars, so be sure to compare fares before booking.

When democracy bites.

This weekend is the national conference in Polokwane, where the much hyped leadership vote, will determine the new head of the ANC. The leader is chosen by some 4000 ANC delegates countrywide, and the hugely controversial Jacob Zumais tipped to win the top spot.
