Virgin America is offering sale fares from $39 one-way or $78 round-trip through Friday. Destinations include New York, San Diego, and Washington, D.C.

Virgin America’s sale fares were the best available for every route I checked, though United matched the San Francisco/San Diego fare. However, other airlines, including American, AirTran, Frontier, JetBlue, Northwest, and US Airways, came within $2 of Virgin America’s prices, so be sure to shop around before you book.

BusinessFirst

Holiday season flights in Continental’s BusinessFirst class are on sale starting as low as $1,240 round-trip. Featured destinations include London, Brussels, Paris, and Rome.

Business-travel expert Joe Brancatelli (subscription required) reported on Continental’s deal before it was posted on the airline’s website, noting “astonishingly, a few of the prices are actually lower than last year … As usual, however, Continental has put its entire European network on sale. If you’re interested, I urge you to hurry because the fares to the most popular destinations (Italy and Spain, particularly) go very fast. So don’t dawdle. The best way to find the holiday prices is to go to Continental.com and make sure you tick the ‘find lower fare +/- 3 days’ box and the ‘search by price’ radio button on the home-page search box.”

American

American has matched many of the fares included in Southwest’s latest domestic sale. Fares start at $98 round-trip, and cities include Ft. Myers, Houston, and San Diego.

American’s sale fares were the best available for five of the six routes I checked, though Southwest has the same prices for each of those. American and Continental also have the same prices for travel between Dallas and Austin. Delta beat American’s price for the Providence/Ft. Myers route. You should note that other major and low-fare carriers came within $1 or so of American’s and Southwest’s sale prices, so it’s important to shop around before you book.

Virgin America is offering a two-for-one deal for late-fall and winter flights. The promotion is available through early December.

This is a great deal for anyone looking for a cross-country or California flight this winter. Virgin America’s fares are generally quite competitive, so at two-for-one, you’ll likely get an unbeatable deal.

American has joined Northwest and United in offering holiday sale fares. Prices start at $112 round-trip, and destinations include Chicago, New York, Montreal, and Toronto.

American’s best deals among the routes I checked were for the Boston/Toronto and Chicago/Montreal routes. Other airlines, including AirTran, ATA, Continental, Northwest, United, and US Airways, along with American itself, beat the sale prices for the remaining routes. Since several airlines are competing for your holiday travel dollars, you should be sure to shop around to find the best price for your route.

Europe

Icelandair is offering Europe sale fares starting at $315 round-trip for travel through late March. Destinations include London, Paris, Reykjavik, and Amsterdam.

I found lower fares for each of the routes I checked, from Icelandair itself and from Air Canada. Though Icelandair may offer a competitive price for your route, you probably won’t find it listed in this sale, so compare fares before you book.

I have to say this has been so amazing for me – to ask for help from the blogosphere and to get it! I am full of warm, fuzzy feelings!

I’m a bit bleary from all the book editing, so if I’ve left anyone out, please let me know and I will add you!

Thanks, thanks, thanks!

Vanocni

Vanocni Trh

photo The Christmas season is well underway. People are starting to decorate their homes with Christmas kitsch, the first Advent candle will be lit on Sunday, people are now starting to look for gifts for loved ones, and Christmas markets are popping up all over. My sister and I traditionally visit at least one Christmas market per week. We've been religiously doing it for the past 3 years, because going to them makes one feel jolly, like literally feel the spirit of Christmas. This year, we've set our sites on going a bit farther, and trying out Vanocni Trh, Christmas market in Prague. Vanocni Trhy runs from the 1st of December until the New Year. It can be found at the Old Town Square (Staromestske Square) which is also known for it's notable sights, such as the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn, the Old Town Hall Tower and Astronomical Clock and the St. Nicholas Church. Smaller markets are also found at the Wenceslas Square, Havelske Trziste and Namesti Republiky. Aside from shopping for the normal Christmas market goodies, other entertainment options can be found such as the mini petting zoo (sheep, goats & lama), local and international choirs sing carols and school children from schools around the Czech Republic dance and sing for the crowd.
