Mirage
This week, the Mirage closed the white tiger habitat to make room for a new restaurant called BLT Burger. The eatery is part of acclaimed Chef Laurent Tourondel’s BLT Restaurant Group, and is a spin-off of the company’s New York City BLT Burger, which was awarded Time Out New York magazine’s Reader’s Choice Award for Best Burger Joint 2007.

United is offering winter Hawaii sale fares starting at $498 round-trip. Destinations include Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and the Big Island.
United’s sale seems to be a dud—I found lower prices for each of the six routes I checked. ATA topped United for the Chicago/Honolulu and Phoenix/Honolulu routes, while US Airways had better deals for travel between Boston and Kahului and New York and Kona. Alaska had a lower fare for the Los Angeles/Kauai route, and United itself and Northwest beat the sale price for travel between San Francisco and Kona. You can probably do better than the sale fares in most cases, so shop around before you book.

Besides the cookbook, one of the projects we have for this winter is to try to make our company more green. Not only is it the right thing to do, but hopefully we can also save money on electricity, etc., as well as feeling good about ourselves! We are going to have a full environmental audit soon, and I’ll let you know how it goes… (more…)

Yesterday, two girls from Chicago found the waters in False bay not as friendly as those of Lake Michigan.
The two set off from Muizenberg beach apparently to take photo’s in a store bought dinghy, barely big enough for the both of them. With only a dustpan tied to a broom as a paddle, the girls quickly found themselves in trouble. A friend on shore tried to rescue them, but with the rip current and offshore breeze he was unable to reach them on a surfboard.

Flights to Beijing are on sale from United. Fares start at $740 round-trip for travel through mid-December.
Continental and Northwest beat United’s sale prices for most of the routes I checked, including Atlanta, Boston, Miami, and Washington, D.C. Continental alone had a lower New York fare, and Air Canada and United itself also had better Washington, D.C., fares. All Nippon and JAL topped United for Chicago departures. You can probably find lower fares than these, so shop around before you book.
