Unlike other phrase books, Lingolook is made up of 75 decks of cards complete with a 75+ key words, an illustration on each deck, and three related words/phrases totaling 450 translations. It also includes a 6-card reference section with travel tips, menu readers (very important!), time/date, numbers (helpful when you're trying to read Kanji) and a country map. The cool thing about Lingolook, is that it is not limited to the passport-sized, fannable deck of cards, it also has an E-version for PDAs and the iPhone, as well as a PDF version for use in any computer.

Delta is offering Thanksgiving sale fares starting at $178 round-trip. Destinations include Chicago, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City. American, Northwest, and United have competing holiday sales as well.

Delta’s best deals among the routes I checked were for the Cincinnati/Chicago and Phoenix/Salt Lake City routes. Other airlines, including AirTran, American, ATA, Continental, Frontier, Midwest, Northwest, United, US Airways, and Delta itself, beat the sale prices for the remaining four routes. Since there is plenty of competition amongst the airlines for travel around Thanksgiving, be sure to compare fares before you book.

Virgin America will add San Diego to its route map in February. Introductory fares start at $39 one-way or $78 round-trip.

Virgin America’s introductory price is the best currently available. The so-called “Virgin America Effect” has knocked the average price for transcontinental fares down by as much as $100, and the airline’s presence in San Diego could very well keep prices between the city and San Francisco low as well.

The Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown Manhattan has a “Thankful to Be in New York City” promotion for travelers visiting the city over the Thanksgiving holiday. Book a stay at the Roosevelt between November 18 and 23 and you’ll get discounted rates advertised at $239 per night.

I checked prices for Thanksgiving night and found rates ranging from $245 to $355. Comparatively, rates for the exact same rooms the following (Friday) night ranged from $345 to $455. If you’re willing to travel mid-week and have your holiday in the big city, you’ll be able to get a good deal at this luxury property.
