To the dear readers of Wandalust: Please accept my apologies for not being there for the past 2 months. Real life and work got in the way. With “real life”, I mean my 2 young kids. At work, we've had some emergencies which meant that I had to travel even more than usual. No, those are not valid excuses. I have been doing this for years and I know very well that things come up and I should have been prepared. I should have had “buffer” posts to keep flyaway active during my absence. I should have managed my time properly, from the very beginning. I am sorry. In any case, things are back to normal, with work and real life. Today, I spent a considerable amount of time on my research and my writing. I have enough output to make sure that “future emergencies” are well taken cared of. This, I promise. But please do not be misled by that graphic on the left of an envelope and some green bucks. It does not mean that I am giving away money. I just thought that the envelope seemed apt and the green made it look more interesting. hehe. Now that we are back to regular programming, you can again expect posts about real travel experiences and tips I have learned through the years as an expatriate and traveler. In addition, I will share with you information from other resources which I think will help you a lot in your future travels. Thanks for listening. Let's keep traveling!

photo For the last 46 days, all we ever hear about Burma (or Myanmar) is about protests, the military junta and Aung San Suu Kyi. We don't really know a lot about Burma apart from what we see in the news and what Rudyard Kipling wrote in his book. Orient Express' The Road to Mandalay is the best way to see the untouched beauty of the ancient land of Burma. The cruise starts from Mandalay and travels to the Ayeyarwady River, where travelers get to witness the richness of the Burmese culture hidden from the outside world. Among the sights that you'll seen when you take The Road to Mandalay are:Bagan which was founded by a Burmese King and a former center to Bhuddist spirituality.Bhamo, a trading post near the Chinese border.Mandalay, where you can see the Golden Palace Monastery and the Mahamuni Pagoda, home the most venerated Buddha statue in Mandalay.Mount Popa, complex of monasteries, pagodas and shrines.Yangon (formerly Rangoon), capital of Burma and home of the golden Shwedagon Pagoda.

Who says the London Underground is a dirty, smelly place full of grumpy people, its really what you make of it. The kids in the clip above thought a Tube train was the ideal place to have a dinner party and share a glass of wine with friends, and it looks like they were right.
