Call Roaming While Travelling

When traveling abroad, I always make sure that I bring my mobile phone with me, with call roaming activated. It makes me feel more secure, knowing that I can easily get in touch with anyone, if needed. Roaming charges, though, could be very expensive. Hence, it is always best to check the cost to use your mobile phone abroad before you even get on that plane. You need to find out how much they charge for calling or sending SMS messages from your country of destination to wherever it is you may be calling. You also need to know how much you would have to pay if you answer a phone call from abroad. It may seem ridiculous but there are actually people who are still not aware that they have to pay for the roaming cost, even when receiving phone calls. For those travelling within the European Union, you will be glad to know that roaming charges will substantially fall with the new pricing regime. Now, if you will be travelling outside the EU then you have to be extra careful. As I mentioned, you need to check with your phone provider regarding detailed roaming costs. If you want to keep the cost down, keep in mind that you should send an sms or make a phone call only when it is absolutely necessary. Otherwise, you should probably just go to an internet cafe and write updates for your friends and family. Oh yea… a travel blog is a great way to update people back home. It would save you from telling the same story over and over again.

Dubbo Zoo, How to Hear Cheetahs Purr

Get sneezed on by a giraffe, get licked by a rhino and get stalked by a cheetah. If you come to visit NSW and have a bit of time to see the place, definitely take the 5 hour trek out to Dubbo. Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, Dubbo is a thriving and vibrant in-land city. One of the oldest in-land settlements, it is thoughfully located at the crossroads of two major rivers, making it important for trade.

JetBlue has announced new service to Orlando from three cities in the Northeast. Fares start at $69 one-way for high-season travel.

These introductory fares were the best available for each of the three new routes. Fares from major U.S. carriers came within $1 of JetBlue’s, however, so you should still compare fares before you book.

Alitalia is offering fall and winter sale fares to Europe starting at $501 round-trip, including all taxes and fees. Destinations include Paris, Barcelona, Kiev, and Copenhagen.

Alitalia’s sale fares were the best available for many of the routes I checked. The only exceptions were for the New York/Paris and Chicago/Zurich routes, where US Airways had better deals. This sale is worth considering, particularly because Alitalia includes taxes in its advertised prices—a welcome change from most airlines’ method of promoting low base fares, only to tack on hundreds of dollars in taxes when you book.

A Study In Ice Cream Cones

I’ve been trying to take a photo of an ice cream cone for the front cover of ourupcoming ice cream cookbook. I think it’s the hardest thing I’ve tried to photograph, especially since we want it to be melting slightly, which we think makes it look less static. There’s so much humidity in the air that the ice cream tends to frost up before it melts. Anyway, here are a few attempts. The last one is from a few months ago… Now I’m off to the All Ireland. Chiarraí abu!!!

APEC Week, News From Sydney

APEC week has officially shut down Sydney Until September 9th 2007. As you read through and watch some of the some of the attached serious articles and associated silly stuff, it does make one wonder about calling Australia the land of the free. A police state has been declared in the Central Business District of Sydney. While Security is obviously important, many feel Australia has gone overboard.
